Use a spacious, well-decorated enclosure to give the male plenty of escape routes. Introduce at dusk or after lights out when the female is less defensive, and keep tongs and barriers handy—these spiders are huge, and the female can be unpredictable. Supervise closely and be prepared to separate them swiftly if things turn sour.

Female Readiness Signs

A receptive female will often drum or tap her legs and remain out in the open. She may stay near her burrow entrance and display less aggression toward the male. If she raises her front legs or charges, she’s not interested—try again later or after a heavier feed.

Post-pairing Conditions

Once paired (assuming both spiders survive the encounter!), boost humidity further and keep temperatures stable. Feed the female well, then leave her undisturbed to settle. Avoid any sudden changes in conditions, as Theraphosa can be sensitive to stress post-pairing.
